WHY WE BUILT IT
Switch the coder. Keep the project.
Long software projects should not depend on one model or one coding session. Different coders have different strengths, availability changes, and development can continue long after a session ends.
The adapter separates the project from the coder. Project knowledge stays in the development system, while the active model becomes an interchangeable coding engine given the right context when it takes over.

WORKING TODAY
The standalone coder is complete and operational.
HelpfulCo uses the system on real software projects. It routes coding work through available providers with fallback, grounds proposals against the selected workspace, preserves project context, and keeps proposal, review, approval and apply as separate controlled steps.
A standalone Windows build is operational and a working macOS version is also available. The coder remains an internal HelpfulCo development tool rather than a public commercial product, with further improvements focused on reliability, recovery and model selection.
WHY IT STILL MATTERS
The coder can change without redesigning the development system.
Model-switching features are becoming more common. The durable value here is the layer around the models: project memory, controlled handover, approval boundaries and a consistent workflow. Better coding models can be connected underneath that layer as they emerge.
